Stok Kangri is the famous star of high altitude trekking in India.
At 6,153 meters, mesmerising views and snow ascent through features like glacier, snow slope, shoulder, it holds the biggest prize for a seasoned trekker who want to transition into mountaineering.
It lies in the stok range of mountains, inside Hemis National Park in Ladakh.
The trail to the mountain starts close to Leh town from a village named 'Stok'
It became such a popular climb that it was banned for ascents for a few years due to the glacier receding at an alarming rate which created a shortage of water for the villages dependant on the streams that flew from the valley
Even though the climb is non technical, the altitudes makes it quite a demanding climb thus holding higher risks than one would usually find on a big trek.
Stok is also a preferred climb for people attempting bigger mountains such as Nun, Kun, Satopanth and other 7000 + meter mountains
