Dominating the skyline of the beautiful Markha valley, stands the massif of Kang Yatse.
Located in the Hemis national park in Ladakh, The western summit of the massif, also known as Kang yatse 2, is the perfect opportunity for people looking to step up their game in high altitude mountaineering.
It is considered the crown jewel of the mystical and vibrant Markha valley with its alluring dry and harsh rocky terrain consisting of high cliffs and deep gorges.
Walk through the gorgeous valley exploring the cultural heritage and architecture such and religious shrines, stupas, mane, centuries old monasteries, some still functional and some turned to ruins.
The journey to the basecamp of the mountain promises exciting new scenery every day, from crossing the “Sangam” a.k.a the confluence of river Zanskar and Indus which showcases a blend of two different colors to walking up the valley through ancient history itself.
After journeying through the valley and beautiful pastures of Thachungtse, the massif reveals itself beyond the expansive valley plains of Nimaling where you come across the twin lakes, believed to hide some precious mani stones.
The area is also home to the Pika’s and Marmot’s which live in the burrows in the surrounding area’s away from human settlements, if you are interested in spotting wildlife.
As you get higher towards the mountain, you get to see the expansive views of the mountains stacked one after the other creating a jaw dropping view unlike any other
On a clear summit day, one can see K2, Broad peak and Gasherbrum massif in the north and Nun – Kun peaks along with the Zanskar ranges in the West
