Stok Kangri has been banned until further notice
Stok Kangri is a famous trekking peak standing tall at 6153 meters which lies in the Stok range of mountains, inside the Hemis national park, Ladakh
It is the perfect peak for a seasoned trekker who wants to transition into mountaineering as you get introduced to some technicality of mountaineering along with the features of a mountain while you take on this peak.
The trail to the mountain starts close to Leh town from a village named 'Stok' and makes it way through the rugged valley up to the base camp in 3 days.
It became such a popular climb that it was banned for ascents for a few years due to the glacier receding at an alarming rate which created a shortage of water for the villages dependant on the streams that flew from the valley
Even though the climb is non technical, the altitudes makes it quite a demanding climb thus holding higher risks than one would usually find on high altitude treks
Stok is also a preferred climb for people attempting bigger mountains such as Nun, Kun, Satopanth and other 7000 + meter mountains
